do not have a shelter so all of the rescued animals are in foster homes, each
receiving the vet care, socialization, housetraining, and all the love and
attention they deserve. We do not tolerate animal abuse, and are involved with
the rescue of those in puppy mills, and promote the importance of spaying and

As very few battered women’s shelters allow pets, this leaves many women with no choice but to stay in an abusive relationship because the love and concern for the pet. The YWCA’s goal is to remove this obstacle by providing a pet-fostering program. The YWCA Hands of Kindness will find a temporary safe home for the pet, veterinary services if needed, and a chance for the victim to get the needed help without abandoning the pet who has become her biggest ally in her abusive situation.
