SPAY and NEUTER!
The single most important thing you can do to combat the abuse of companion animals and the suffering and killing of unwanted cats and dogs is to spay or neuter your pet.
Remember, allowing a litter of cats or dogs to be
brought into the world is a death warrant for the cats and dogs already in a
shelter and needing a home.
Each day, 10,000 people are born in the U.S.A. and each day it is estimated 70,000 puppies and kittens are born. As long as these birth rates exist, most dogs and cats will have a short, miserable existence. Your pet, male or female, will be healthier and live longer if spayed of neutered. This will also prevent undesirable behavior such as spraying, barking, caterwauling and running off. Neutered pets, especially males, are also less vulnerable to theft because dogs and cats are often stolen to be used by backyard breeders and puppy mills.
